Lessons Learned

This is it, folks! Post 1,000! You have all day today to comment on all the posts from 12/24 to this one. I will draw a winner on Jan 1st for the year subscription to Everyday Food magazine (a Martha publication).

Here are the details to enter the giveaway for my 1,000th post.
  • One comment per post between 12/24 and when I reach 1,000 will get you an entry for each of those comments.
  • Link to my blog to get an entry (let me know in the comments if you've done so and a way for me to check).
  • Bonus entries for answering my question of the day in the comments. You may have to search to archives or have been a regular reader for a while to know the answer.

I thought I would mark this occasion with a look back at 2007 and some of the lessons I've learned this year. I don't think I could have planned it out any better to have my 1,000th post fall on the last day of the year.

1. Blogging every single day this year wasn't as difficult as I thought it might be. In fact, I loved every single minute of it.

2. Blogging is cheaper than therapy but sometimes you need therapy, too.

3. My friends are extremely supportive and generous. We raised a good chunk of money for autism research in April.

4. Having two kids is just right for me, for now.

5. I can't help myself. I have to make money--no matter how little. I opened my etsy shop and sell Stampin' Up. I also started doing Pay Per Post.

6. I can't do everything. But, I can try!

7. I need at least one weekend away from home so I can remember what it is like to be an adult and also remember how much I miss my family when I am not there.

8. I can't resist Bit-O-Honey candies. Mmmm.

9. My husband isn't perfect.

10. Choosing to medicate a child isn't an easy decision but it turned out to be the right one for our family.

11. Yarn is a good investment. It is kind of like emergency preparedness. I store up flour, sugar, water, and wool.

12. I can't resist Dancing With the Stars.

13. Severus Snape is a good guy (Harry Potter). Jacob is a wolf (New Moon). Adeline and Emmeline aren't alone (The Thirteenth Tale).

14. Most people that find my blog through google searches are here for i-cord tutorials and felted oven mitt patterns (which I have never actually made).

15. I can accomplish anything I put my mind to!

Yesterday's answer: Cornbread Casserole

Today's question: What was a lesson you learned in 2007?

Organizing myself and my stuff is worth the time it takes and reduces stress. Actually, I relearned that.

  3. Happy 1000th post!

My Lesson: I could run 12 miles with out stopping. I never thought my body was capable of doing that and it was, and I did. A half marathon is possible, and I'm going to attempt it again in 2008.

  4. Congrats on your 1,000th post! My lesson: a clean house is over-rated, but somehow, I still want it!

And hey, #4. . .is Carl getting to you?? Hee, hee.

  6. way to go 1000! My lesson: I get bored when I don't get to use either my brain or my hands so my current job, yeah, it's not gonna work out :-)

  7. That's a toughy, but I think I know my answer. I just need to take baby-steps. I always get overwhelmed by all that I have/need/want to do, and eventually get depressed and throw it all out the window, almost. For 2008 instead of thinking of the HUGE goal, I am going to break it down. I can't lose 40 pounds overnight. So instead of saying I need to lose 40 pounds and then getting all depressed about it and giving up, I am going to set shorter goals....like lose 5 pounds. That is more doable, and I will be happy once I reach it, to keep me going. That's the plan anyway....

Congrats on your 1000th post! And please pick me!

I like #6. T and I had a serious conversation about that last night. He thinks I try too hard; I think I can never try hard enough.

Congrats on your 1000th post. I have no idea how many posts I've done. Maybe I should go count them.

  10. My lesson learned is to cherish every moment with your children -they grow too fast. God never gives you more than you can handle...and I am going to do all that I can for my little ones -especially those with challenges :)

  11. Wow. I learned some BIG lessons this year. This has made me think I should write down my perspective on 2007 at the end. It was horrid, but not completely and many, many good things came this year along with the bad. I think what I learned is that what is right for you might not be what you ever imagined.

Congrats on your 1000th post. I've read EVERY one and enjoyed it, too.

  13. congratulations on your 1000th post, how cool! My lesson would be that a happy and paitent mommy is loads better than a spotless house and 3 square meals a day, so your daughter's favorite thing is mac and cheese, who cares, she'll grow out of it ;O)
