Shoe Shopping

I don't like shopping for shoes. I don't know what else to say about it. Unfortunately for me, I happen to be in the market for some new brown leather sandals. My last pair died at the end of the summer last year. I had them for over 5 years. In fact, in the past 13 years I've only had to buy 3 pair of brown leather sandals. I stuck with Dr. Marten's and they last a long time! I don't know what to do now. These are similar to the pair I had last. I would know what I'd be getting if I go with these. They are durable, heavy, and comfortable. They are also the most expensive of the 3 I have in this post.

This is another pair of Docs. They look pretty good---they don't have that big sole which could be a good thing when I don't like how heavy my last ones were. They are also on clearance and over 1/2 price of the previous pair.

The Dr. Marten's sandals I can confidently purchase online because I know my size and I'm familiar with them. Any other sandal I would need to actually go to a store and try some on. Ick. This is a pair from Naturalizer. Their shoes are supposed to be comfortable, right? They look okay. The price point for these is right in between the other 2 pair. I don't know whether to take a trip to the mall or just order some Dr. Marten's online.

Luckily, I don't need to make a decision today. I can wait a few weeks.

  1. I don't like to shoe shop either. Primarily because they never have my size (11). I also hate spending money on shoes, they are so expensive these days.

  2. I like the 2nd pair. I think they're pretty sleek for Docs. . .and I like that the sole is a little slimmer. I have some of the 1st ones too, but you're right, the sole feels a little heavy. . .but I do like that Docs can last forever (well. . .close)

  3. I think I really like the 2nd pair, too. Carl likes the look of the 1st pair but the price of the 2nd...because, really--a pair of Docs for $30? You can't beat it.

  4. I say go for the Docs, they are good ole' reliable. I'd get the second pair and ty them out. Worst case senario, you don't like them and then you're only out $30. That's not bad considering what shoes are starting to cost these days.

My partner loves the Doc Marten's sandals (I like the shoes), but Birkenstocks are my sandal of choice. They are wonderfully comfortable and last forever. When they start to wear down in 5 years or so you can have them resoled and they're as good as new!!

But of the ones shown, I like the first pair better. We call them te Jesus sandals in my house. :-)

  6. Samantha-my black sandals are Birkenstocks. Love them. But, I haven't had good luck w/ Birks that have the strap around the back which is what I'm looking for w/ brown sandals. Hmmmm.

I always have good luck with Naturalizer shoes. I guess if you find a brand you like--Doc Martens in your case--you can pretty much tell you are going to like them. Of the three you pictured, I liked the 2nd pair. (If you want the opinion of an old lady!)

  8. We're shoe sole sisters. I completely wear out my sandals. I had to buy a new pair last summer after 3 years of abusing my Birkenstocks - I had them re-soled twice in that time. I was in California so I wore them every single day of my life. I have Mephisto brand now because they're just as comfy but they're kind of stylish too. They're expensive, but it's been my experience that cheap shoes will just make you hate your life. It's worth it to spend for something good.

Do you have a Walking Store in your mall? They have good comfy shoes that you can try on.

  9. I used to work for Naturalizer back in the day. Their shoes will not last you your usual 3 years. Especially if you plan on wearing them everyday this summer. Sometimes they do, but we had so many come back to the store after a month and there was nothing we could do about it. We had our share of unhappy customers. You can ask my friend Andrea that worked with me there.

    I'd stick with the Docs.

  10. Against my mom's better judgment (she thinks they are ugly), she is getting me the 2nd pair for my birthday!

Hmmm...I wonder what I should blog about tomorrow. What else do I need?

    ;)

  11. Craziness- I was just thinking its time I go buy some new sandals- and low and behold you did my research for me- I like the first ones. I am all for chunky sandals- I have this weird conception that chunky big shoes will make my legs look thinner- its not true but its fun to think so!

The second ones look comfy too- and $30! WOW!

  12. Dancing with the start and Idol!

I can't decided which one to tape. I've decided to DVR Idol and watch DWTS online. Ryan's wants to watch something. If he wasn't sick he would have been home around 8:30 or 9. Of course he has to get sick and mess up my T.V. night.

I even got Whopper Eggs for the evening.

  13. Dude. I love Whopper Eggs!

  14. Well, they are both sleeping right now. Maybe I'll come over with my eggs.

OK, I am a knitter but first and foremost, other than being a mom, I am a physical therapist.
Get the 2nd ones. Better sole for your foot than the other two!

Jane-I'm so glad you said this now because those are the ones I am getting.
