Parenting 101

I had to fill out some forms online yesterday and Eva was trying to help me. I decided to let her do the previously unthinkable. She sat in our bed, with chips, and watched the "Toot Toot!" DVD by The Wiggles. My forms are still not finished (and probably won't be for a few more weeks--ICK!) so I have a feeling this scene might play itself out a few more times in the next couple of weeks.

Do you like her hair? She's got 15 knots on her head. Her parts aren't as straight as the ones Bek did for her daughter, but I'm pretty proud of what I did. Did you read the post I linked to? She mentions a trip to Wal-Mart. It just so happens that I had to take my Eva there this morning. I had a totally different experience which I'm sure can be contributed to the fact that I live in Nebraska and Bek lives in the California Bay Area. The only people that commented on her hair were (white) senior citizens (3 different ones) that asked me why in the world I would give my kid a hair-do like that.

Because I can, old people. Because I can.

  1. She looks adorable!

I did that to my girls, but only after their bath, so they could have some curly hair!!

I LOVE her hair. In fact, I might even covet that hair for myself.
Have I ever mentioned here that I have known since I was 14 that I wanted to adopt a black baby some day? (I never assumed I would give birth to my own black baby because I have also been strongly, ridiculously attracted to Latin and Hispanic men since I was 14.)

Maybe some day you can give me hairstyling tips for my own daughter (I'm pretty sure that hairstyle will be greatly appreciated here in Arizona).

  3. Oh my, that's is so cute. You're making me feel kind of sad that I only have boys with short hair. Maybe I'll get myself one of those dismembered Barbie heads to play with.

That's weird that old people would want to say anything snide about a kid's hair. They're probably just bitter because they're losing theirs.

  4. Anne-Might I recommend the Sanjaya inspired pony-hawk? It was surprisingly comfortable and cool.

  5. I love her hair! Up in knots or pig tails or just going wild! I sometimes wish my hair had half as much attitude!

That's too bad about the old people- i am not sure where people get off thinking they can comment on other people's choices...especially when they are complete strangers and its how they've done their hair! Huh!? I wonder if they tell those teenagers what they think of their hair when they have it dyed blue and green and in a mohawk? :o)

  6. What's wrong with colored hair? I happen to have some purple in my hair currently. Okay, I must explain though, it was supposed to be red, I got a lot of red and blonde highlights. The red looks red, except in the sun, and then some of the streaks look a bit purple. Just thought I should clarify that. BTW--I could have gone and had them fixed, but I kind of like them. Next time I get my hair done they'll be gone, so I'm enjoying this rebellious color while I can. Tee Hee.

  7. Ha ha! Christy you kill me! "Because I can, old people, Because I can!" That could be a deep thought by Christy, instead of Jack Handy. I am going to add that saying to my new list of words and phrases to adopt. Like biscuit. For example: "I need to get my BISCUIT on the treadmill so I can get in shape. Why you ask? BECAUSE I CAN, OLD PEOPLE, BECAUSE I CAN!" Ha ha! Now let's see how often I will really use it.

  8. You can probably hear me say it, can't you Kerry?

  9. I love her do! It reminds me of all the cute little kids in the DR. That would take me forever to do on Elise--there's no way she would sit that long. She has no patience for "hair-doing." I usually have to put on a video. . .

  10. That might work with Mckenzie's hair. I think I'm going to try it.

  12. Heather- Hey, I love colored hair!- in fact mine has been pink, red and various shades of blond... oh and in highschool I gave myself purple highlights for school pride. I was also thinking of doing chunky orange and auburn streaks in my hair this week. i like to experiment- not only with color but I also cut my own hair- so I am all for trying new stuff with hair- its just the other day I saw a teenager with a green and blue mohawk and I thought...huh? wonder what the 'old people' would have thought about that do!
Anyway- didn't mean to insult or offend...just commenting :)

  14. I was going to say "Where do you live that old people would be that rude?" But then I remembered you haven't really left the Bible Belt, you've just moved North.

This reminds me of the sweet little old lady (or so I thought)at Wal-Mart who peered into my overflowing basket and seeing the diapers, apple juice, and other "I have kids" items said "Oh dear, it looks like SOMEONE has too many children." I really wanted to reply with "I know, I blame my compulsive sex addiction." But I didn't.
