Operation Poopy Pants

Most of you know that Caleb has never gone poop in the potty. It is quite a shame...for me, especially, because poop that comes out of a 4 ft. tall, 70 lb. five year old isn't fun to clean up. In the past we thought that he might just be too sensitive to the feel of the toilet. He wouldn't sit on it until he was over 4 years old and even then he looked like he was in mortal agony every time we put him on there. I got him a cushioned seat. He got treats just for sitting. Still, no go. Now sitting on the toilet isn't so much the struggle. He'll do it almost anytime we ask him. He just won't do anything when he sits there.

Yesterday, the pediatrician came up with a new plan. Miralax.

You down with OPP? Yeah, you know me!

Starting tomorrow.

  4. Oh dear! Make my kids' constipation problems look like a walk in the park. But the long term results will certainly be worth it. Rock on, OPP!

  5. Ooooh, good luck. Zach had major toilet anxiety and I finally had to throw him on the toilet mid-poop. He got a lot on the ground but some in the pot. I mean really, lots of good luck.

  6. It's hard to throw Caleb anywhere he doesn't want to go!

I did catch him mid-poop one time and he STILL held it in while sitting on the potty. I paid for it the next day.

    Ick.

  7. Oh, I feel your pain. We started using suppositories in August. I let Ben sit on the small potty, then about a month later, I bought a small seat that fit on the big potty. I still have to clean up poop once a week, but it sure beats having to do it once a day. Everyone swore with the suppository, he would poop in 5 minutes. The bottle says 5 mins to an hour, and it took Ben a good hour. But I kept him occupied with his favorite books and left him alone to relax and let it come out. We haven't had to do suppositories for about a month now - he hates them. But he doesn't go by himself yet - we have to make him sit on the potty - so thus the occasional accident. This, too, shall pass...
