I entered six items in the Lancaster County Fair. Three are knitted and three are crocheted. First, the knitting.
The sweater was made with my Jo Sharp super clearance yarn. I entered it at the last minute. It's not my best work but it won 2nd prize and $3 (with this--I break even for my entry fee).
I made the Airy Scarf from Last Minute Knitted Gifts. I made one of these when I first got the book and donated it to a service auction at our church. I decided to make another one to bust that yarn from my stash and have something else to enter in the fair. It also won 2nd prize and $3. You can kind of see an ivory cabled sweater off to the right. It won best in lot for knitting. I think Snowdrop could have given it a run for its money, but that's okay.
These socks should look familiar! I just finished them on Monday. They are for my uncle for Christmas. Now, he will own BLUE RIBBON winning socks! First place= $4.
Now, the crocheted items. I made a doily just to use up some of my thread and pad my entries. This one is called Penny Lane and it won 2nd place (another $3).
This doily was made for my grandma for Christmas. She was pleased to hear it won a BLUE RIBBON! First place= $4.
This dress is really beautiful in real life. It is a christening gown. I put it on Eva for her to wear it to the temple to be sealed to us but it was way too big so she didn't wear it. That's okay. I'm keeping this dress forever. Not only is it lovely, it won me first prize ($4!) and BEST IN LOT! That means (according to the judges) it was the best dang crocheted item in the whole fair.
Best in lot winners get an extra $3. Not too bad for a $3 investment. This is really motivating me to get my act together for the state fair. They don't have as many monetary prizes but it is free to enter and best in lot winners get gift certificates to yarn stores ($25). Plus, it's not really about the money. It's about being a winner. And, gosh darn it...I am one!

CONGRATS! That's so neat that every item you entered won something. You've got me motivated to enter some of my stuff in my county fair next week :)
ReplyDeleteWho you? Like to win?! Nah! Congratulations!! That's really cool!
ReplyDeleteWhat is that...like $30. You are a winner! That is pretty awesome. I put my name in a drawing once and I didn't win. Someday--you just wait! No really...congratulations! That is very cool.
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Christy! I can't believe you forgot Snowdrop!!!
ReplyDeleteI would expect nothing less from you, Christy (or I guess the judges... your work is just too good.) Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteYep, you are a winner! Congratulations! I'm not really surprised. I think your creations deserved to win. Good luck at state.

ReplyDeleteI'm so proud that I'm beaming. You deserve it. Don't blow all that dough in one place! I'm down to 5 rounds on the border on my blanket for Julie. It should be done before I return to work on Monday (but my stomach is KILLING me and hampering my spirits).
Congrats Christy! You are a winner, for sure! How much did you make? Was there a limit on how many items you could enter? Very Awesome!
ReplyDeleteOk, in my best County Fair voice "WE HAVE A WINNA!!" Congrats! That snowdrop will win for sure at the State Fair!!
ReplyDeleteI want to see some pictures of you modeling your ribbons, like your gold medal in knitting!
ReplyDeleteNo problem, Mary! Any requests on what you'd like to see me do while wearing my ribbons? Don't forget this is a family blog and I also will NOT do dishes! I'll get to pick up my ribbons on Sunday.
