Feeding the Masses

I'm feeding the sister missionaries tonight and I have a somewhat bare pantry. There is no school today so I can't even venture to the store without taking both Caleb and Eva. While this is not impossible to do, it is not recommended. I may have to suck it up anyway because I don't want to feed them canned soup and stale bread. Thanks to Total Body Makeover I do have a plethora of clementines, whole wheat pasta, and frozen veggies. Somehow I think the combination of those foods leaves something to be desired.

I think maybe I need to get organized and join in with Melessa on Meal Plan Monday.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that I just need to go to the store. I'm taking both the kids to the Y today anyway. Plus, It's highly likely that one of the missionaries is getting transferred this week and I'd hate for her last meal with our family to be gross.

Commenters--you have 3-4 hours to leave your most awesome missionary meal ideas.

  1. I know I'm late, but this is when I order a pizza.

  2. I'm thinking about it. It's cheap pizza night at Godfather's. But, last time we were having them over I sent pizza to their house because somebody was sick.

  3. Our favorite is breakfast for dinner. The missionaries love it too since they won't get overfed and it's unique since they never get breakfast for dinner. The last time we did it a misionary got so excited and called it just like being at home again.

Certain relatives of mine always bake a ham and all the fixings. I don't know how it is there in Nebraska, but the missionries here get fed every day, so a ham is really over the top on a Tuesday night. Do you remember Jason's mission puking story?

  4. I'm with Hollie... we do pizza when things are too crazy and nothing is in the fridge. You could always go to Papa Murphy's... take and bake. It's cheap and it tastes okay too. Chinese is good too and usually cheap.

Another idea is buying a frozen lasagna. This way your trip to the store is quick and hopefully painless.

  5. I think I'm late too, but one of our quick favorites is just to dump a bag of chicken breasts into a crock pot with about a whole bottle of BBQ sauce, let it simmer all day then pull it apart (it will just fall apart) and serve on buns for sandwiches. My kids usually just eat it without the bun.

  6. Mary-- you win. I think we're going to do waffles and eggs. I have all the stuff for that and then I don't have to go to the store. Good thing, too because we've got a house full of poopers. But, what's new?

  7. I once tried out a weird Kenyan crock pot recipe on the missionaries. I don't remember exactly what it was, but it had peanut butter in it and some kind of cow part. It was weird, but they were nice about it because they had eaten lasagna for the last 5 nights in a row.

    I love the waffles idea.

  8. Yay, waffles! I think I might feed my little future missionaries some of that for dinner too...

  9. We had waffles, eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns. It was a total feast. Good stuff. Now I have to go to the store tomorrow.
