New Job?

I'm thinking about working again. Not full time teaching or anything crazy like that. Not only can we not afford the day care on a teacher's salary, but I still really want to stay home with the kids. I may complain (sometimes with good reason) but it really is what I want to do. Being a stay at home mom isn't easy but working outside the home AND taking care of a family is worse. But, I can't shake this "I gotta make some money" mantra in my head. I like to make money. I like to make it almost as much as I like to spend it. Actually, I like to spend it more when I know I'm contributing.

I've been looking into a couple of different options and I'm not quite ready to discuss them here. I still need to get more information. I would like to see if any of you have any good work at home ideas? No Pampered Chef (been there, done that), Mary Kay (I'm clueless about skin care and makeup---despite my recent eye shadow success), Avon, Tupperware, or Creative Memories (done it). It doesn't need to be a "party" business but those seem to have the most appeal to me because I don't need to do a lot of the leg work involved with getting something started. Any ideas for me?

    Hi Christy,
I would try the Avon out. They have new products all the time and are really easy to sell!

Babysitting. Or you can be a professional garage seller.

  3. Does SD's campus have an ESL (English as a Second Language) location? Ours at OU is often hiring and they hours seem pretty flexible. I found their job listing on the university website under 'non-student' jobs. I wanted to apply, but with an internship looming next Fall; it didn't seem like a good idea. It is teaching, but the hours are not school hours and it's more like tutoring than teaching a large class. Maybe they have part-time or weekend hours? It's worth looking into.

  4. Good idea, Melessa! I'll check it out around here. That would get me out of the house unlike a party business where most of the legwork is done at home.

  5. How about selling your knitting projects on Ebay? They're gorgeous! I'm sad you won't be doing Pampered chef, I always need a dealer.

  6. Mary-most of my knitting projects are way too expensive for anyone to buy (especially if you factor in my time). I do have a few things I'm working on (hats, belts & purses) for babies/toddlers/kids but I don't see myself making really good money doing that.

I've been making a good chunk 'o change with writing this year. You can email me for a great lead.

Do you have a community college that needs tutors? Ours is always looking for tutors and part time instructors.

Go to http://www.wahm.com. Look at the discussion boards. They have more money making ideas than you have ever heard of. Some of them are good, some not so good. There's even a discussion board for professional bloggers that has ideas for increasing traffic to your site and stuff like that.

I know what you mean about liking to make money. I love making money. It makes me feel like I'm participating in the world even though I do it pretty much with my computer and my ideas.
