Kids Toys

How many toys do kids need?  In my house, I'm pretty sure it's not a lot.  They play with a few toys over and over and the rest just make a mess.  I took matters into my own hands today.  007

I'm throwing away the toys.  I'm feeling pretty generous in allowing each child 10 toys.  This isn't even literally 10.  For example, Eva's dollhouse and the furniture and things that fit in it count as one.  Caleb's Scooby Doo people count as one.  They'll still have more than enough.  Maybe I'll lower the number to 5 toys each eventually.

It feels pretty good to get rid of all that stuff.   The picture above was taken about an hour into the cleaning.  It's still crazy down there.  And you know what?  The kids are fine with it.  I'm having a harder time convincing Carl.

Know anybody that wants some toys?

  1. Donate the toys to the City Mission or the Friendship Home. I'm pretty sure that they would love it!

  2. Tell me how you convinced Carl! I can't seem to convince James. He says I have to get the kids' permission, which of course they won't give!

Every time I try to get rid of toys my husband puts them back. He insists that it isn't fair to take toys away that the kids play with even if they only play with them once every 6 weeks or so.

My kids barely have any toys. They have a few things that they really play with...and the other stuff ends up being donated to Goodwill. We have done this since they were little...they don't know any different. They have never said they feel deprived!!!

Luckily Scott and I are in agreement on this. We just don't like the clutter OR the forcing them to clean it up.

It has also developed the habit of playing outside more rather than holed away in their room.

  8. My two little boys are just the same with their toys, they play with some and the others are just neglected but they are still very young. I have been looking for something a bit different for this Christmas and stumbled upon the wheelybug buggie, have you heard of these? they look awesome and I might treat my little tike's to one each this year if they are good.
