I Need a Travel Agent

I posted a quick status update on facebook the other day about my upcoming vacation plans.  Here is my summer vacation schedule:

June 15-21 brother coming to visit

June 22-27 Oklahoma

June 29-July 3 Swim Lessons

July 16-21 Utah

July 22-26 BlogHer in Chicago

July 27-Aug 1 CHA Trade Show in Orlando

Aug 3-7 Caleb's day camp

It is turning out to be quite the summer!  We've got a minor glitch that I'm hoping maybe one of you might have a solution for.

Carl is missing a whole week of work this week for Scout Camp and he has so much work that he can't really afford to miss another whole week to go to Oklahoma.  That's okay because my younger brother (he's 13) will be with me on the trip and I can make the drive as long as I have him along to be the referee and snack thrower.  My problem is that I won't be able to get back to Nebraska without a helper.  I mean, we would probably all survive.  It's not impossible.  I've done it before.  I think this is why I am so adamant that I never do it again.  I digress.

We're leaving the 22nd of June to go to Oklahoma.  Carl won't be able to join us until after his workday on Wed.  The flights are too expensive.  Him driving down by himself kind of defeats the purpose.

What I'm wondering:

Is anyone around here planning a trip down south where you can drop Carl off in or near Oklahoma?

Is anyone willing to ride back to Nebraska with me from Oklahoma?  Getting back home is another story.

Will Carl be willing to ride a Greyhound?  Do they still have Greyhound buses?

Can anyone help us out?

  1. I have a suggestion: tell Carl to bail on the whole scoutmaster thing. I mean, doesn't he have enough to do? He just can't say no to those people, can he?

(He won't go to hell, I promise.)

  3. Hmmm... That's a tough one. I admire Carl's dedication to his scout master position, but this time I would vote for family coming before scouts.

  4. Carl loves being the scoutmaster. Plus, he's already been gone all week at Scout Camp so it isn't an option for him not to go.

How great that you'll be in Utah when we'll be there! Hopefully you'll be able to join us for Zach's birthday party on the 16th. I'll send you an invitation.

    See you soon!

  6. I would love to be able to ride along, but Oklahoma gives me hives. Big hives that look like rotten cherry tomatoes.

Last time I was in Lawton I got chiggers and a tick (that I didn't find for like 3 months and skin had already grown over its little anthropoid corpse encasing it in weird scar tissue).

I mean let's face it, Oklahoma has more insects than the islands of Japan and the Korean peninsula put together. If you shipped out all the worms, mosquitoes, roaches, midges, chiggers, ticks, flies, leeches and exoskeletalites from the soil of Oklahoma the remaining land mass would be smaller than Vermont.

  7. I was going to say "sure" until I read Gayla's post! lol (just kidding, I wasn't going to say "sure" anyway)

Greyhound bus still exists -- but their website is *awful*!! Good luck getting any information!
