The New Crack

For the past few days I've had a new obsession (other than knitting and thinking about how much I've "grown" as a person). Technically, it's not new. I've been doing this longer than I've been knitting. It's just starting to take over what little knitting time I have.

My name is Christy. I'm a stamper. I've been wanting to make little notecards and tags to go with the knitting projects I make. I also wanted to be able to send some card packs as gifts in the swaps I'm doing. In addition to that, I think that once I get a good design (for my knitting tags--not SU) I'll be able to sell these at my so far non-existent etsy shop. For the supplies and my time, I'd be able to sell my handmade cards for as much as you would spend for one in a store (about $2.00-3.00 including shipping). I'm going to have to break my way into some craft fairs.

I'm also a new Stampin' Up demonstrator. I have no plans to do any workshops or demonstrations at this time. I think I'll be able to support my habit through friends and family that want to order products and/or my handmade creations on etsy.

Market research: If you didn't make cards yourself, what kinds of cards would you buy? Birthday? Thank you? Blank? Holiday?
Would you want a set?

I better stop blogging and get creating.

Did you know that there are copyright laws on the stamps and that it is illegal to sell cards you have made with them? I had the same plan and did the research. Perhaps you can post your findings in case the rules have changed. Thank you and good luck. Your cards are very nice looking.

  2. I have the copyright stamp that I can put on my cards. It's all legal.

(cue electronic voice) You have been assimilated into the stamping borg!

Hee Hee!! It is addicting, isn't it? My hubby swears it's some sort of cult. I saw a stamp once that said stamping was both therapy and an addiction - I think that's a great summary!

Just wanted to clarify a few things from what you and super stamper posted earlier. Yes, you can sell your cards (as long as they're stamped with the copyright info), BUT the venue is restricted under SU's angel policy. You may sell them at craft fairs and non-hostess events, but not retail outlets or websites. It's also against the terms of our demo agreement to advertise online, unless it's an official demo website. Just wanted to make you aware - it might be worth nosing around the demo handbook a bit for clarification before you make further plans.

There are many other companies out there with less restrictive policies so that you can sell online, but there are also others who don't allow their images to be used on items that you'll be selling. Just something to consider when you purchase images.

Your beautiful cards put me in the mood to stamp something, but I lack your creativity (and probably a lot of your cool tools too). Very nice! I would definitely buy these cards, and I prefer blank ones so I can use them for any occasion.

The cards are great! I will want at least a pack of blanks. Just not yet...you know everything in the house boxed up until the remodel is complete...

  7. When I have made a card set for people I usually make a random set of all different cards and I think that would sell well.

    Birthday
    Thank you
    Anniversary
    Thinking of You
    Baby
    Wedding
and I always leave some blank for any occasion

I would buy blank ones. Your designs are great. Let me know how that goes. (and if you need copyright assistance, I know an attorney). :)
