Habits Worth Forming

I'm just starting week 3 of Weight Watchers.  My weigh in this week was rough.  I didn't know what was going to happen.  I was sick all weekend and pretty much ate whatever I felt like (including most of a pizza over the course of 2 days).  Even with all of that, I was down 1.2 lbs.

I did try making a cake with Wild Cherry Diet Pepsi.  All I can say is that it was a total waste of a perfectly good soda.  Devil's Food cake mix+Wild Cherry Diet Pepsi= gross cake.  That didn't stop Carl and Caleb from eating the whole thing, though.  They must like gross cake.

Last week I started using this new product that I thought I would tell you about.  Disclosure: I did get this product for free.  I met the woman behind the product at Bar Camp and she gave me a set.  We're also going to partner with them at Toolulu to work on a few projects.

These are bracelets from HabitWise.  I am using the GetLoss program.  Basically, I use these bracelets to help me make good food choices throughout the day.  Certain colors equal different food groups.  You start the day with all the bracelets on one arm. You move them over to the other arm as you eat those types of foods.

IMG_2544I must admit, I was skeptical.  Were bracelets really going to help me eat better?  Apparently so!  They are a constant reminder and give me visual cues as to the types of foods I need to consume.  I really enjoy this system and have been thinking of all the ways you can alter it to fit your lifestyle.  I was thinking I would use them to start tracking my Weight Watchers points.

Do you think you would benefit from this type of product?  What would you use it for?  They're really interested in hearing your opinions so they can make this product a success.

  1. Here's my take on eating while sick and doing WW. Just do the best you can and drink plenty of fluids. You don't have carte blanche to go hog wild and hoover everything in the fridge, but if you're over your points for the day, that's ok because you're sick. Tomorrow you start fresh and it's not worth beating yourself up over it.

It also helps to look at it this way, do you still weigh less than you did when you started? (I have to ask myself this when I gain during my cycle.) If so than you're working the program effectively.

  2. Hmm...I bet your cake didn't turn out because baking destroyed the nutrasweet in the Pepsi. Perhaps if you added something that is more temperature stable like sucralose, this would taste better.

Good for you - and Cool! those bracelets are great.

    that might work for diabetics?

also great for young kids learning manners - or potty training?

ha- or even my husband, who is constantly encouraged by me to clean up his language. ;-)

ha- i was going to look for a link to the 5-4-3-2-1 campaign running around town now and say it would be a great way for kids to learn how many veggies, glasses of milk, hours of activity vs tv time... and then i found this: http://app1.unmc.edu/publicaffairs/newsarchive/view_art.cfm?article_id=1938 so it must already be happening... either way-- what a great idea, and good for you!

  4. That's so simple, yet sounds powerfully effective. I would totally use it. Oops, I forgot, bracelets bother me. Oh, yes, just dangly ones. OK, I think I could use this.

Eric, great insight! Thank you to the family chemist.

  7. I recently got one of those nursing reminder bracelets as a bonus with a nursing cover. I really didn't think I would use it (it's not like I'm new to this), but I LOVE it. So I think these bracelets would be a great idea. I also need to go sign up for WW. Thanks for that reminder too.

  8. The bracelets are very cute! My only problem would be keeping my kids from constantly trying to take them away. :)
Good luck on your weight loss journey!
